@BaeyleaPhotographyLover Thanks! Yes have yet to invest in a tripod!

I love it very nice shot you would have to be at a very different angle to take this photo.
What would you improve?
Something to improve is maybe trying to make sure that the photo is still the photo is kind of blurry ans if it was still it would look better but other than that its a good photo.
Thanks for the tips! I'm keen to get to grips with horse sports in particular so i think the feedback is really helpful. I'd like to catch some of polo matches in action, but I think that will be the hardest due to the unpredictability of where the horses will be next!
by cgoad 23 Februarymuch better!
by kanonkop 23 Februaryi used to live on a 'horse farm' so did quite a photo show jumping pics. i also made the mistake of chopping of the head at first, but once you know about it, its easy to acc for that when taking the pic. i usually use F3 - F6, and use one focal point. to compensate for the jumping horse, i used the lowest focal point which forces me to aim high.
another thing i found was that the pics tended to be more appealing when the horse was still jumping up, (so he is pointing upwards and the hind legs are still stretched out), as opposed to when the horse is at the apex of the jump..

Some good tips. Just went through all the photos i took that day and I don't have any with all of the rider's head in from that angle! Next time I get the chance I'll see if i can capture the whole thing. I've got some shots from the side, but i'm not sure it quite has the same impact. I'll post one of them as it would be good to hear any feedback.
by cgoad 22 FebruaryActually, i'm not as pleased with the others so i'll post something completely different.
I would leave more headroom.. :)
by kavian 22 FebruaryLooks better and is a nice action shot, add a slight bit of fill light, and try a contrast bump may make the horse rider stand out more

This looks significantly better than the edited version. Good timing & horse looks sharp.
What would you improve?
I would prefer a wider view showing where the horse is jumping to and preferably not chopping off the top of riders head/hat; The alternative is a tighter crop of the jumping horse to show more detail thereof.
