What do you like?
amazing macro! I aspire to shoot photos like this! I don't have a macro lens but it's images like this that makes me want one bad!
16 June 2012What would you improve?
nothing. Keeping this picture in black and white helps with the shadows and under exposed areas that helps dramatise this beautiful piece.

What do you like?
i love macro shots! this close up it beautiful! i love the close shot, the sharp macro focus, it simple and plain but very pretty, i like that you made the background black doesnt distracted you from the tiny details in the plant!
13 June 2012What would you improve?
Its brilliant, need no improvement, if it was mine i might made the centre of the plant a bit darker (contrast) only slightly so you can really see all the detailed lines and texture! but it lovely very pretty!

Deeeeelighted Louise, So nice of you to join me in my feral garden. Massive thanks for your very thoughtful and most inspiring feedback. It is probably due to the difference between our monitors but I can see detail in the area you mention. I am waiting to see the print before making any adjustment or not. GB D!

What do you like?
I like how you've chosen to only take half of this flower. Beautiful.

I was wondering how the black background was obtained. Have you placed something behind the flower while taking the picture or was it done through software?

Hiya Busra,
Loads of thanks for dropping by my gallery and leaving such a great wrap.
The background was a bit on the dark side being in shadow but by using off camera flash all the dark areas became black. There were a couple of stems still visible so I cloned them out in Photoshop.

What do you like?
Pure bliss, great clarity, creative composition, as mentioned in one other comment bellow , ready to be featured on any wall. Beautiful work Dennis, perfet black and white I would not reccomend pushing any whites further as you have managed to capture the perfect exposure and maintain the suttle textures in the white of the flower, I call this AMAZING WORK..
10 April 2012What would you improve?
None required, great work, consistently.

Cheers Joe,
Welcome to my garden safari.
Thank you kindly for your input.
You may have problems with your monitor mate as there is plenty of white in this image on my screen and plenty on the print too. If I "brought out more white" I would have blown out highlights and loss of detail. 8-)

16 June 2012Shazam Zamil, Many thanks indeed for joining my garden safari and for leaving such an exciting and inspiring feedback. Happy to see you really enjoying this one. Mate you don't need a macro lens for close-ups. This was shot with a Canon 28-135mm IS USM lens zoomed out to 115mm. Shutter speed 1/200sec (flash/camera sync speed), f/22, ISO 100. Off camera Vivitar flash unit on manual, fired by wireless remote - full power, diffuser, f/11. Light direction and intensity controlled by moving flash up, down, around and in and out for effect. This is how I shoot almost all my close-ups. I do have a Canon 180mm L macro lens on my wish list though and owning one would require a slightly different learning curve. Do what you can with nwhat you have and learn to get the very best from it. A very rewarding genre of photography even with the most basic of equipment. GB D!
