What do you like?
This picture is very nice.

The eyes are absolutely beautiful! And I love the glasses and his skin is so perfect! If photo shopped, great job but if not, then WOW!

What do you like?
I really like the composition and the out of focus individual in the background doesn't bother me at all, I think it adds to the shot.
18 AugustWhat would you improve?
I am wondering if the photo would have more impact if it was in black and white, bumping up the contrast a bit, keeping the eye blue. This may totally go against your vision but just curious...

What do you like?
Putting only half the face in the frame creates an interesting tension.
18 AugustWhat would you improve?
Perhaps crop a bit from the top (half the forehead). As I was scrolling down to enter my comment I noticed I liked it even more with less of his forehead in the picture. Also the blue light in the background left is a bit distracting. It took me a while to realise there's another person behind your subject. That doesn't really add much to this picture.

barrington@bjorn Hey, thanks for the feedback. I totally agree with you about the forhead. Would be much better with some cropped off.

What do you like?
The beautiful color in the eye and the clarity in the face are great.
18 AugustWhat would you improve?
Go for the unconventional crop and just eliminate the background. Do a portrait aspect keeping everything from the ear and go to the right. The guy in the back isn't adding anything for me.

Thanks a lot for your feedback, the idea about the crop sounds interesting. Regarding the person in the background, I wanted to try and tell a story with the photo. I thought that the guy in the background would lend intrigue and create a narrative so that it became more than a portrait. It has gottern mixed reviews though so not intirely a success.

This is interesting, but after a few moments I'd say it looses its glamour. The noise really stood out - and I could see why at that ISO level - but still see if you could take some of that out. Where it got me at the beginning was the clarity of face and the eyes.

barrington@sepiashutters Thanks for the feedback, Unfortunately the lighting was qiuite low and a high ISO had to be used. I have to say though that I think the noise here is mostly in the background so I don't really mind it being there too much in this instance, because I think it helps to bring out the clarity in the face?

Great and interesting picture. I like the concept and find the half face portrait really good (a lot of the time I prefer this to a whole face). Everything about the face is perfect and what lovely blue eyes...do they belong to you? I found the background person a little distracting and would have preferred just a plain background or to have the other person a lot more out of focus. Great picture though!

barrington@GirlMick Thanks very much for the feedback. The eyes do belong to me and your comments have ment I can no longer retake the picture, as my head is now to big to fit in the frame.

Had mixed reviews about the background here, I did want to try and tell a story with this one, but I can see how a plain background could improve the portraiture aspect. Thank you.

What do you like?
I love the framing. It was what really caught my attention! I also liked that the more I looked at it, the more details I found. Ie, the guy in the background.
16 July 2012What would you improve?
I might have added more color to make it pop. But overall, this is an excellent portrait.

barrington@Anjelika Thank you very mcuh for the feedbacxk. I'm glad you like it.

What do you like?
interesting framing choice, with the image cut so close to his mouth and nothing of particular interest above his eye brows I think you could crop off an inch or so of his forehead to put the eye closer to the top third of your photo and the image would still be fairly balanced.
Helpful 1 15 July 2012What would you improve?
I love the detail you've captured in his eye and glasses, and his eyes are so beautifully blue, but have you thought of trying the image in black and white, one that keeps his skin very pale and even, while playing up the detail and darkness in and around his eyes?
-

barrington@AlexandraLauren Thanks for the feedback. I understand totally what you mean about the crop.

barrington - thanks for the reply

My feeling - our eye goes to the brightest point in the photo. In this case, my eye goes to the bright light, rather than the main subject. Try this quick idea just manually crop the white light on the left and then see if your eye does not go directly toward the subject
Hope this helps,

the bright lights in the background are distracting, in my mind
-

barrington@Outline Thanks for the feedback. I was actually in two minds about the lights in the background. At the moment I am trying to play around with light source by introducing many to one photograph. I've been trying to decide if it adds interest or distraction, I thought the bokeh helped here to keep it on the right side?

barrington@ruthgillson Thank you, I'm happy that you like the figure in the background. Not sure I accomplished what i attended to though as have had mixed reviews about that aspect. I never thought of doing black and white. That could help with the narrative regarding the background figure.
