  beautiful sepia tones and great depth of field - your subject really pops off the background.

  What would you improve?

  Not much, I especially love the tones through out this photo. I might try experimenting with cropping your image slightly (taking a cm off the top and left side) to try and put your subject's eyes closer to the top third line. Great capture of a great expression. I want to know more, what he's looking at, thinking, ect...

  The great expression gives a feeling of stressful concentration here...I would love to know what he was doing at the time.

  A terrific entry to the Expressions competition. You have caught a remarkable expression here and delivered it extremely well. The image has been composed very well to allow the viewer to glimpse enough of the environmant to put it in context. Thye image also holds exceptionally good depth, clarity, tonal range, contrast and highlights.

  What would you improve?

  1. I would not create a black background here for the very reasons I stated I like the background above and also because you would then end up with a disembodied figure floating in deep featurless space.
  2. I do suggest though that for a bit of housekeeping you crop in from our right to brings the edge of frame right into the outside edge of the coat sleeve. This will add just a bit more emphasis on the subject and prevent the viewer's eye from slipping out of frame.
