What do you like?
Great macro shot...I love the detail of the fly. Amazing!

There is a lot of underutilized space that does not add to the subject...I recommend cropping a bit more tightly, not tight as that may squash the subject.

What do you like?
The way the photo is more than just a "bug on a stick"; the sweep of the rim of the pot; the positioning of the body of insect in the frame; depth of field spot on; the warm colourway

Shame that the wingtip is out of the frame

I would paint the background the same color as you have in the right ,at the back of the insect or turning a bit dark to create a good contrast ,nice photograh

What do you like?
this is an insect with long wingspan.. and you have done a superior job in giving it the space it deserves...just as long as the details of the insect is maintained. In fact, I think the space around the insect is it's own composition.

the clipped wings to the left of the frame should be included well into the photo. Nice shot either way.

Evve@hkharivhe hmmmmm yes you're right about the space under the insect, I could have cropped it but never thought about it, thank you so much for the help :-)

4 OctoberI think the present crop is about right. I like the space it gives for the curve of the pot and the way it allows the insect to be placed off centre in the frame. If you crop too tightly it's just a photo of an insect, with the space you have allowed it becomes a composition. I think the contrast is OK too - all a matter of personal taste really.
Just spotted your reply about the wingtip - as you say they don't stay still for long!
Evve@otinkyad thank you so much :-))
