I really like the pose and the overall capture a lot: A lively and beautiful shot of the male duck as we know it ;-)

First of all include the EXIF information: I cannot judge whether the slight blurring is due to chromatic aberration or movement - in case the shutter speed is 1/500 or faster it must be CA; else it probably is motion. There might be some room for improvement when playing around with the saturation of the different colors and/or white balance to maximize the impression of this close-to perfect photo.

Everything! To capture the shot at just that moment you were either lucky or patient. I would guess patient. The pose is fantastic, the colors the sharpness (I can see the beads of water coming off the torso) and the DoF. I'm really drawn to the blues particularly on the feathers. I love the colour.

What do you like?
The way the duck has been shot at precisely the right instant to get the best posture; the crispness of the detail; the capture of the male mallard's key colours. Shows that you don't need exotic birds in exotic locations to get good wild life shots - just go your local park!
