The sunlight shining thro' the trees and casting a golden "runway" on the ground; the angle this "runway" makes with the actual path; golden light contrasted against the cold, dark trees; the overall slightly spooky, desolate feel. I think the slant adds to this spooky feel, but I'd be interested to see an unslanted version.
Re Kelsi's comment - the shot is contra-jour so you are naturally going to get a very wide range of light intensities. I think it is fine that a lot of the trees are underexposed, it adds to the emotional impact. As for the sky, well ir's not that important really as it is only seen thro' the trees. Photographers can sometimes get a bit hung up on making every part of a picture within the exposure range. With some pictures it doesn't matter - eg "Lonely Walk" (

I can't think of a way to improve the picture

Hi Kelsi, I don't want to make any excuses here, I know this is not one off my best shots ever ;-) When I have the time or am out with the cam all by myself I take the time to adjust the cam settings and comp....Helas when I'm with my bro who's the man in the shot (he's not photominded) I usually put it onto autofocus because he doesn't ever really stop and I have to run after him all off the time...So yes you're bright, the sky is overexposed and all but the blurry part is on purpose, I wanted a bit more "romance" in my shot and I'm afraid I made it a bit unsharp on purpose............

It's a storytelling shot for me!25 OctoberWhat would you improve?

Ooh, I love autumn photos! The colors are so extraordinary and this photo is no different. :)
I really like how you've got some backlight going on there, kind of illuminating the path that the person is taking - which also draws our attention to the subject of the photo. Excellent composition as well! I like the tilt of the camera, very cool.Helpful 1 24 OctoberWhat would you improve?
I think this photo is underexposed in the trees, and the sky is overexposed. All these areas don't have very much detail, because they're either too light or too dark. I understand that the lighting probably wasn't the greatest, so perhaps a different angle/perspective or even adjusting your camera settings would've been better :)
I really like these two articles that explain exposure in-depth:
http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/camera-exposure.htm
http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/camera-flash-2.htm
(Really, that whole website is fantastic!)
Also, the photo is a little too blurry for my liking. Was this a handheld shot or were you using a tripod?
Looks like your shutter speed was pretty slow, but that's probably because of the lighting conditions. I know it can be pretty hard to capture motion in darker areas :-)
Great photo, though! -

Kelsi@Evve I totally understand, and was probably a bit too nit-picky with my critique :-)
