Hmm.. not exactly sure! :) What I've done to figure out the best crop for a photo is to make a few copies cropped differently (maybe 3 or 4) and set them aside. I struggle a bit when looking at the same photo for too long.. you could come back in a few days and look at them again and one usually jumps out at you more than the others. There's no right or wrong per se, but you can sometimes create a totally different perspective or emotion simply by changing the crop. Or make a couple of versions and get a couple people to look at the versions and tell you which one jumps out at them the most. One thing I learned from a photography course recently is that our brain will complete a picture if you don't have the full element in the frame. Makes sense - a simple example would be if you had a stop sign half cut out on the edge of the frame, your mind completes the picture of the stop sign. You don't need to see all of it to know what the sign looks like. And by trimming you can remove elements that distract from your subject, whether that's an animal, building, or emotion..

What do you like?
Good shot - good lighting, focus, DOF, good expression.
1 NovemberWhat would you improve?
First off, I love the shot. It caught my eye from the thumbnail, but once I opened the full picture it lost some of its impact (to me) because of the crop. I would suggest that you try a few different versions cropping closer to the head to really get the subject and expression to pop. :)

1 NovemberWhat would you improve?
i would increase the colors a bit ,you can reedit the image in photoshop on line express or windows live photo gallery, both are editors that help to adjust the shadows highlighting sharpening , and brighting ,,and to adjust the color too but i love the image

I'm relatively new with editing photos, and this is an old shot. When I looked at the other photos from the same day, this was the one that had best colours and lightning. But now that I look at it, separate from the other shots, I do think it could need a bit more colour. Thanks. :)

1 NovemberThank you for the comment. :) I see what you mean, and I'm sorry the full picture wasn't what you expected. How close would you crop? I kind of like it the way it is, I mean that there is a little space around her, and still she's not that far away from you. If you know what I mean. :) But I'm going to try out your tip, maybe I will like it better that way after all when I see it. :)
