- Took me a few tries to get this one right. Lots of masking time in PS. I was trying to evoke the hopeful spirit of the returning light in the middle of winter

My first impression is that there is a lot going on. Different lines going every which way. Would it have been possible to straighten out the top rail the balls hang from? My eye keeps wanting that line to be even. You're mentioning light, but I'm not "feeling" the light in this photo. Perhaps brightening up the balls would help and opening up some of the shadows. I would even try to make the balls appear to be lights themselves. Also the photo doesn't suggest that it's winter time unless the viewer is told...with that said, WELCOME!

Nice idea and good PS skills, however I can't help notice the last pink and last two blue baubles, the backs behind the railings are distorted and don't line up to form the correct shape, easily rectified I'm sure

alnitakYou are right! didn't see that. Got so focused on the masking that I didn't take the time to check carefully for shape.

What do you like?
Hi Pete. Welcome to Focussion! I think you have captured the mood nicely and accomplished what you set out to do. The leading line of the fence takes the eye through the photo nicely. I am not usually a fan of selective color, but in this case it works.
What would you improve?
I understand the gritty aspect of the background, but it may need to be toned down a bit. Keep shooting and posting!

I deliberately added the grain to the background to give it more dark and gritty mood. Maybe I overdid it

What do you like?
The cheerful and bright colors against the darker surrounds.Good clarity and well composed.
What would you improve?
Might just be my screen but it seems a bit noisy.
alnitakThanks for the detailed feedback. That's why I am here. So if I understand correctly, you'd like to see the top rail horizontal? Interesting. I'll play with it.
