This is one of those photos were you need to be aware of your background. You can see things in the darkness and this would've had more of an impact if the background were solid black. I like that the rose is on a lighter colored cloth, but to keep the focus on the rose I don't know if I would've gone with something that had strips.

What do you like?
the separation of rose and backdrop works well as do the textures of the flower, i can almost feel the velvet of the petals.
What would you improve?
softer/diffuse lighting would eliminate those harsh-ish shadows deep within the folds of petals and may well eliminate the blown highlights of the cloth. a little more space on the left might work. maybe taking off the petal, extreme left, would stop the eye wandering to the blemish/tear. i apologise if all this seems picky but it the sort of critique i would like on my work.
all in all this was a well thought out image and a successful one too..-

HLCPhotography@Zozo well thankyou. Honestly I didn't even notice the tear on the rose till you mentioned it. This picture was taken with only sunlight. It was peering through my living room window so I grabbed a rose set it in the sunlight/ glow and began shooting! I appreciate the tips. I just began shooting and I only use manual. A little more work but well worth it!
