This is just perfect. Bird photography is so challenging, and this picture is about flawless. Very inspiring.

not a big fan of bird photography but photos like this might convert me. if that is, i have the hours and patience for it! great selective details in this shot and i am sure they show up even more in the original.

What makes this shot work so well is the shallow depth of field. Maybe National Geographic would say "you need both ears in focus", but hey, I think it's great. You have a single, isolated subject (the bird) and then another "inner" subject (the eye). So the viewer is brought into the image in stages. It's very good.

@janbar Haha, thanks! We've thought about that (well, some kind of owl illustration as mascot), but owls have a very bad sight at close objects. That wouldn't do any good for the macro and close-up photos ;)

I really love the detail in the image, and also the fact that you left some space in front of it. It makes the composition look better. As @davidzinyama said, the eye is amazing! :) The color makes it pop, since is the only bright one around there.
