G'day *Patricia*!7 November 2011
This lovely portrait looks just so...so natural. An excellent job by both of you.
Your eye work has been very delicately handled and is not over done and the smile is genuine as the eyes are smiling with the mouth.
I think there is a little bit of detail that gets lost in the shadows near the eyes. But this is a superb photograph that landed its way into my favorites on Focussion!6 November 2011
Thank you all so much! @jittoku this is just natural light, nothing more nothing less. I love natural light. I might try working on the highlights wich are there because of the sun. And I think it's because I changed it to b/w. The color version they are light too but you still see some color in them, so maybe that is less distracting!5 November 2011
Thanks a lot!
Another beauty ... really!5 November 2011
Her smile is simply delicious, and you've rendered her eyes so beautifully.
The lighting, while very soft, is still dramatic. I'm wondering how this was lit.
Initially, I thought her chin was tucked in a tiny bit too much, but changed my mind after I remembered it opens her eyes wider, which I like much more :)
And ... you get a gold star for the tonal range, gradation and contrast, especially on her face.
I see only one minor imperfection, which probably only someone like me would notice (for some reason it always jumps out at me).
Some of the highlights in her hair appear 'clipped' (or too coarse), which always looks to me like the hair is turning prematurely gray. I usually go over those highlights in very fine detail (pixel level), fixing them by hand. It's meticulous work, but worth the effort. Afterward, I'm always amazed at how distracting they actually were, even when they seemed barely noticeable at first.
Here' a few that jump out strongest to my eye:
- just above her left eyebrow & a few spots above/right from there
- near bottom edge, going sideways (which also messes up the 'flow' there)
- a few in highlight area lower/right from chin.
- more will become apparent if you fix those ...
Gorgeous portrait, once again you nailed right on the money.5 November 2011
