Rebecca brings up some very valid and well-taken points. However, I can't help but wonder, looking at this image, what your limitations are as a photog at this event. Perhaps it is your equipment, location, or lack of tripod. Either way, I think it's important to recognize those things and ask what can be done about it? I think this image would be more striking when composed more like a portrait. Focussing on the face and eliminating the darker half on the bottom would help as well.

music photography is really hard. i don't think very many people do it well because most photos turn out kinda like this one--a guy standing at a mic. depending on the band, you can get some good crowd surfing or other stage antics (which i think is why i love photographing punk bands the most), but folk and indie, man everyone really just stands there. lighting is also hard because venues are often dark, the colored lights make everyone look red or green or anything but normal (and i hate photoshop). so uh, i guess i kinda hate this photo just because it represents every challenge i have as a (amateur) concert photographer.
