Premium accounts and awesome new features!
To be able to purchase additional servers for Focussion we've introduced the premium accounts. For a little money you support Focussion and you'll get a lot of new and awesome features like:
- Bigger photos (full width)
- Sets (multiple related photos in one photo)
- Better change to win a contest (multiple contest submissions)
- Receive more tokens
- Upload more photos
- Get rid of the advertisements
- Support us to continue developing even better features!
- And lots of other features
Of course we did not remove features for our current and future free Focussion members. So nothing will change if you plan not to support us :-)
An example of a bigger photo and a set:
We hope you'll enjoy!

We have listened to your feedback about the gold accounts and decided to merge the two accounts into one account. So now we only have one premium account for the price of the 'old' silver account.

I think you should add a Category called something like "Lines and Shape". Maybe another one called "Depth". Just a suggestion.

Howmany gold/silver accounts have you sold already?

Focussion never had bigger photo sizes than the size of the current basic accounts. We did not reduce the size when introducing the premium accounts. So I think the premium accounts are a nice addition for you if you want bigger photos ;-)

The only thing that really bothers me at this point is the photo size for the basic account. When I had a basic account on Flickr, I could still see a much larger format. I think 800 x 600 pixels (such as on Trekearth/Treklens) should be the minimum, or 900 pixels, such as on Photodom (Russian/English photosite), where a load of serious photographers and stunning photography can be admired. That would probably provoke more people to consider joining this website and later on to upgrade to silver or gold.

Just my 5 cents :) -

@Michiel Thanks for your answer but this is useless to me!

I'm not on a broadband connection, I can't spend time only to search who faved, or not.
I'd rather not know at all that someone faved one of my image (because who cares anyway?).
I don't understand why you choosed to do so since every photo site on the web, in free account, let you interract with people who faved your own images! It's only "normal" to do so.
Don't you think? -
Michiel
@JmG In the pre-premium age there was no mail when somebody favorited your photo, so I think it's an improvement to see that somebody favorited my photos. The person who favorited the photo is not very important, but if you really want to see who it is, you have to check the favorites of all members on Focussion :)

I must say that there's something I find quite "petty" with this new account thing.
13 July 2011
If I post a photo that someone "faves", I can't know who faved it since I only have a basic account.
Well, I think that as I'm the photographer that's faved, I should nearly be the only one to know by whom whatever account I use. -
Aljan
@Niara The silver account is just the standard premium account which will give you the most advantages and features. And the price isn't high at all.

The gold account is also for people who really like the vision of the website and wants to support that. Large websites like Flickr has investors and a lot of money to grow (marketing, development etc), we don't have that.
I really understand that you think the price is high, but it's more about the silver accounts as you can see. I hope you will stay on Focussion with your nice work and helpful feedback! -
Niara
The thing which surprised me most was the price tag for a Gold account, I find it outrageous.
10 July 2011
I have visited so many professional photo forums where the price is much lower and the amount of extra features much higher. On top of that, the activity on this website is not that high already, to express it mildly. I don't think you'll find many photographers willing to pay this amount if they can have the same or more features on other professional forums. -
Michiel
@luc The upload limit is to force people to think before uploading their work to Focussion. Because of the upload limit you won't see pages of photos of the same photographer. The photos you currently see is a mix of work of various photographers.
9 July 2011
And you're not forced to get a silver account and to support Focussion. You can just continue to enjoy this site without paying. It's your own choice. -
luc
i dont see why you would restrict uploading of pictures at all.. i thought this site was for photographers to show their work and get comments on it. I find it very annoying that i can only upload 2 pics per 48 hours. And no, i wont pay to get silver member. Maybe i should start my own site...
