I am going to add my voice to the others. I have been a member of a voting site for several years and not only are the comments I get back very generic, i.e nice job, but others get mad when I try to give some constructive suggestions. I probably won't renew when it comes up. In addition, the voting is very trendy. At the current time, 80% of the photos of flowers have water drops sprayed on them and these get the top ratings. Focussion is a site for help and education. To make it competitive would dilute that purpose.Helpful 1 28 March 2014
Voting System it is not Good, because It simple not help get critics, it just look for the better picture not help the guy who has been beaten, Pixoto has that kind of voting system, I tried Pixoto, but not like their voting system, its based on cultural differences(Countrie) , and i don't like that, Images are universal to appreciate and not by countries. I read a Lot on their forums and that idea is very plausible. So I look For alternatives to get critics, and so far, I think Focussion is the best you can find. If you want to show your work you have plenty of sites, its just Google It.17 March 2014
I did the Same
The problem I see with an "Image Duel" model is that points would be earned solely by popularity and the nothing would be learned by either the critic or the photographer as no critiques would be offered.Helpful 1 17 March 2014
The object of Focussion's site is to learn to make our photos better by soliciting critiques. There are a plethora of sites out there that can be used as an ego boost (Pixoto comes to mind) but fewer that offer a learning experience like Focussion.
