Capturing water drops
Not an easy shoot, prepare to take well over 100 shots at first, once you get the timing right much less.
you need
- a tray about 2-3" deep - I like black
- small plastic bag with a pin hole in the corner
- string to suspend the bag
- flashes - I used one on each side for the milk shot
- room with low light
- backdrop - various colors
- camera and tripod
Fill the tray with some water, suspend the water bag above the tray - 4-6 feet above - adjust until you get the right splash
Once you have the right splash take an object to focus on right were the drop is hitting the water, use auto focus, once focused switch to manual and leave it
have a backdrop at the rear of the pan, and face the flash into this backdrop - it will reflect on the water - red = red water, blue = blue water etc.
I used a corded shutter release so I am not touching the camera, remote triggers for the flash(s)
start the drips, and shoot away, I like to shoot in an almost dark room, just enough light to see the drips, timing is everything, I try to count the drips 1,2,3 shoot
Using the milk and spoon, I set focus on the dry spoon, filled the spoon with milk, wipe of any excess, start the drip, milk drips out slower so I looked at the drip leaving the bag and timed my shot that way

I found using a black paint tray over the larger tray I had works well and is easy to dump, photos from the deep end of the tray -
