Home page
Hi guys,
Currently I'm working on some improvements on the feedback-system, so you'll hear more about this later.
In the mean time I think the home page can be much better for you as a photographer. It should show you more what you need. Now it shows the following elements:
- New photos
- Latest feedback
- Helpful members
- Latest forum activity
But I'm curious about what you would like on the home page. These things could be on it:
- Photos from members you are following
- Helpful feedback that was given
- Members that were helpful to you
- Your timeline (recent activity)
- New photos (maybe directly choose popular categories, or set your own favorite category)
- Trending photo(s) (random?)
- Latest forum activity (where you responded)
- Current contest (and contest winners)
I would really like to know what you would like to have on the home page, the elements you would use the most. And if you have any other suggestions, please suggest them. :-P
Thanks.

Doing something like this runs the risk of Focussion becoming cliquey, I would think. -

@sepiashutters That sounds like a good idea, but don't you think Focussion is a bit too small for that?

@GlennN Following could be a good option. Or do you mean you could filter or ignore comments? -
GlennN
@Aljan, do you think it would be possible to allow users to customize their log in to exclude certain users? This would stop their posts and photos being displayed in your log in. It would also block them from commenting on your photo.

Basically, if it were possible to block out the things that annoy you, then this might make our Focussion sessions much more enjoyable.
I can only comment for myself, but when I log into Focussion I would rather concentrate on my passion for photography rather than being in a bad mood by reading nonsense comments and 'happy snaps in a Friday night' photos. -

@Aljan Sure its only one click away, but just keep in mind that our internet is slow, as i'm sure it is in many other countries like mine. so for me, loading between pages or photos takes a good couple of seconds, and it often cuts out if i got to many tabs open (not focussion specifically, any webpage).. So i tend to only go to pics that really catch my attention in the preview, and i often don't navigate away from the front page.

Just saying you should be aware of this, not saying you need to improve or change things for slow connections -

@kanonkop @sepiashutters Ok, that timeline idea sounds good, thanks! :-) Do you guys think it should have 5 recent items or more?
23 July 2012
@kanonkop The 'following' tab is one click away, but I understand it will be easier for some people. On the home page we could make a list of new photos and a list of photos by the photographers you are following.
@jonny I think that's a nice idea, cool.
@sepiashutters These are decided on the helpful feedback you wrote (the green thumbs up) and the number of feedback given. -

@Aljan I'd agree with @kanonkop - having my timeline in a smaller version to the left of the homepage would be fantastic. It could be smaller, less iconic data- think of how simple a twitter feed is cut down to.

And to add to what @jonny said, you could have the photos of people (us) in a line of three, with some sort of background color. Think of it as a collage or something, a collection of photos of a person that give off a bit more about them. Though we would still need the normal profile pic, to identify a person better.
As for the "Most Helpful Members," how are these decided? Do these persons have a high good comment rate, do they comment a lot? What's the system? -

Hey @Aljan,
20 July 2012
I'd like my home page to show the photos of those i follow. when i'm just 'popping in', I'm just interested in what these guys are posting. when i've got more time, and i've seen what my favourite photographers have posted, i can then go to the rest of the posts.
it would also be nice to have the timeline displayed down the side if possible. trending photos on the main page is great, and a random photo, esp from the 'archives' is also a great idea.
cheers
